Both editions offer solo and online play. The useful choice is the scenario set you want and the edition your group is using.

Choose for your current session
New to both? File #1 is a suggested starting order because it contains the original scenarios. This is not a tested difficulty ranking.
Joining friends? Match their File before creating a room. Then follow the correct menu route; the guest’s STANDBY step belongs to File #1.
Returning to a save? Open the File and browser profile where that card lives. Cards are not automatically shared between editions.
