GUIDE 01 / GETTING STARTED

Your first Outbreak session

Choose an edition, open the external game, and let it finish starting. The game host performs the final browser checks.

Check the requirements first

The host’s unsupported-browser message recommends a current Chrome or Edge. Its startup checks include JSPI, WebAssembly exception handling, tail calls, SIMD and isolation headers supplied by the host itself.

WebGPU has a separate role: it accelerates graphics. The host can try a slower software renderer when no adapter is available. A graphics pass alone does not prove that every startup requirement is met.

Start in this order

  1. Pick File #1 or File #2 below. If you are joining friends, match their edition.
  2. Wait for the external page to finish its initial loading. It fetches resources automatically; the first start may take a while.
  3. Choose a player name if prompted. Use the page’s Play control when it becomes available.
  4. Click the game view so it receives your keys. Press Enter for Start, and J to confirm.
  5. Choose your game mode inside the game. Use the edition-specific online guide when joining a friend.

Both buttons open outbreakweb.com in a new tab.

Before the first scenario

Default WASD movement is relative to your character. A and D turn; they do not strafe. F1 shows the host’s controls. Use its Settings panel if you need to remap a key.

On touch devices, the host supplies on-screen controls and recommends landscape orientation. The same browser startup checks still apply.

Finish with a backup

Save inside the game, then export the matching File’s memory card from the host’s Saves panel. Closing a tab, changing a player name or selecting a different browser does not create a backup.

If loading fails: read the exact error on the game page. Choose that symptom in troubleshooting. This companion does not test the game engine, network service or a full play session.
